Studio Rates

SHORT PROJECTS
For studio sessions shorter than 2 full days, an hourly rate of $35/hr will apply.
For daily sessions, this is rounded down to $275/day for each 8-10 hr day.

MEDIUM LENGTH PROJECTS (EPs)
For full production* projects ranging from 1-6 songs, the rate will be $525/song with approximately 2 full days (18 hrs) spent on each song. This breaks down to approximately 12 hrs tracking, and 6 hrs editing/mixing per song. Song lengths must be reasonable, with no more than 2 songs over 5 minutes in length, with a maximum song length of 6 minutes. A standard 5-6 song EP generally takes approximately 10 days (90 hrs) to complete.

FULL LENGTH ALBUMS (LPs)
For a full production* album (10 songs and up), the rate will be $475/song.
Songs must be of reasonable length with no more than 3 songs over 5 minutes in length, with a maximum song length of 6 minutes. Often, a full album is completed over the course of several weeks and months and is not done song by song. A standard10-11 song album should take about 20 days (180 hrs) to complete.

DEMO PROJECTS
If you do not need full production on a project, a demo package is available also. The main difference between demo quality and full production is the amount of time available to spend on each song. This means less layers, fewer takes, and a less complicated mix. In general, a good demo should be a strong representation of what you sound like playing live. For demos, a rate of $275/song applies with 1 full day (9 hrs) available to spend on each song, including mixing. This breaks down to approximately 7 hrs tracking, and 2 hrs mixing per song. This is a great option if your budget doesn’t allow for full production.

*”Full Production” refers to an arrangement and sound quality comparable with commercially released Cds.”

OTHER PROJECTS
Music is about possibilities, and many projects might not fit into a package described above. As always, don’t hesitate to contact me with questions you have. I have no doubt we can reach an arrangement that fits your specific goals and needs.

MASTERING
For all full production projects, mastering your album through a third party professional mastering engineer is required. Mastering can range from $50/song to $100/song, depending on budget, and the mastering engineer must be approved by me. I am not a professional mastering engineer and do not claim to be. I will only perform basic “mastering” on very low budget or time sensitive projects. The mastering process is often misunderstood and is difficult to explain, but the end result is simple – mastering is not an option if you want your album to sound like a commercially released CD.

PAYMENT
For projects lasting 2 days or less, payment is required in full at the conclusion of each session. For all other comprehensive projects, a deposit of 35% of the estimated total cost should be paid before work begins. The remainder should be paid in no more than 3 additional payments as work progresses, with final payment being received upon completion of mixing. I reserve the right to hold final mixes/masters until final payment is received in full.
